Updated · tested in Chrome
Short answer
YouTube lets you close a Shorts shelf with its × button, but it returns after about 30 days. To remove Shorts for good, turn on “Hide Shorts” in ytbud for YouTube. Shorts disappear from the home page, search, subscriptions, the sidebar and channel tabs.
Add to Chrome — it’s freeThe temporary fix
- On the home page, find the Shorts shelf.
- Click the × (or ⋮ → Not interested) on the shelf.
- Shorts stay hidden for a while, then return.
With ytbud, step by step
- Add ytbud to Chrome.
- Open Tools → Focus and turn on Hide Shorts.
- Also turn on “Open Shorts in the normal player”: any Shorts link someone sends you plays with full controls, a seek bar and your skin.
Good to know
- Everywhere Shorts appear
- Home shelves, search shelves, single Shorts in grids, the sidebar entry and the Shorts tab on channels.
- Undo any time
- Turn the switch off and every shelf is back on the next page.
