How to set a sleep timer on YouTube on a computer
Updated · tested in Chrome
Short answer
YouTube now has a basic sleep timer in the player’s settings menu. ytbud’s Sleep button adds a 10-second volume fade and an “End of video” option that stops before autoplay can start the next one. Pick 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes from the tool row.
Add to Chrome — it’s freeYouTube’s timer
Open the gear menu → Sleep timer and choose a time. Playback pauses when it runs out.
With ytbud, step by step
- Add ytbud to Chrome and turn on Sleep timer in Tools.
- Click Sleep under the player and pick 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or End of video.
- The button counts down. In the last 10 seconds the sound fades out, then the video pauses.
Good to know
- Never wake to the next video
- “End of video” pauses just before the end, so autoplay doesn’t start.
- Softer sound at night
- “Night mode audio” evens out loud and quiet parts.
Questions
Does the fade change my volume setting?
No. The volume returns to where it was after the pause.
